Yu-Pei Hsiao
VIOLA MASTERCLASS

Born in 1976 Taipei/Taiwan, was awarded as the viola championship of southern district Taipei and the first runner up of viola competition of Taiwan. After the graduation of HSNU (The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan University) was selected and enrolled by the Musikhochschule Cologne (Germany) guiding by Prof. Matthias Buchholz. In the early Summer of 2001, she was awarded both degree as the Viola Diploma and the Konzertexamen of Germany, which was the highest standard and recognition in viola filed. During the study, she was quite often invited to attend the lessons with the ALBEN BERG QUARTETT(ABQ) and also attended many Summer Forums of viola master classes in Europe.
In 1997, while studying in Germany, she was again awarded by the private foundation”STIFTUNG HELGA UND PAUL HOHNEN”the second runner of the viola competition. In August 2000, was elected as the final round competition of solo viola ARD Müchen. Owing to the excellent performance in the Gubbio Festival of Italy, which was appreciated by the Viola Master Mastro Bruno Giuranna, was therefore guided in the forum of string music academy”Walter Stauffer Fondazione” for the advanced study in Cremona.
Back to Taiwan in the early Summer of 2002, Miss Hsiao incorporated various kinds of chamber ensemble, solo concerts, orchester summer camp training and teaching. Meanwhile, as string coach guiding the chamber music classes Piano Quintet of the junior high school/East Taiwan and won the excellent performance as First Prize in the chamber music competition. In 2020, she will tour Beethoven's five String Trio and sixteen String Quartet throughout Taiwan.
Today, Miss Hsiao is as the viola principal Evergreen Symphony Orchester, adjunct associate professor of University of Taipei and Soochow University.
He plays on a cello built in 1723 by David Tecchler in Rome.

Throughout the intensive sessions, students will be challenged to push beyond their comfort zones, exploring innovative ways to express themselves through their music. Heupel's method emphasizes a fusion of rigorous technique with deep musical understanding, empowering students to infuse every note with meaning and emotion. From Bach to contemporary composers, the repertoire is wide open, allowing students to explore pieces that resonate with their own artistic sensibilities.
By the end of the masterclass, participants will have gained invaluable insights into the art of cello performance, elevating their playing to new heights of excellence and creativity. This masterclass is open to both students and young professionals seeking to deepen their musical understanding and refine their performance skills. Conducted primarily in English, with the option for instruction in German if preferred, students will receive four lessons of 45 minutes each, ensuring a comprehensive and immersive learning experience.
